Designing an infrared heater for a bathroom is a bit of a balancing act. You want that powerful, cozy heat, but you’re dealing with two big problems: water and eyes. A basic heater just won’t cut it in a shower zone. You need something that can handle a splash without blowing a fuse. The battle against water and heat That’s where the IP55 rating comes in. In plain English? It means the unit can take a hit from a water jet or a bit of dust and keep on ticking. We use high-temp silicone gaskets and sealed cables to lock everything tight. But here’s the tricky part: when you seal a heater that tight to keep water out, the internal parts can’t really “breathe.” If you use the wrong housing material, the heat builds up, the seals warp, and suddenly your waterproof heater isn’t waterproof anymore. It’s a tightrope walk between keeping the water out and letting the heat manage itself. Saving your eyesight Then there’s the light. Standard infrared lamps have this harsh, blinding glare that feels like staring into the sun. In a home—especially if you have kids or babies—that’s just not okay. We fix this by tweaking the light spectrum. By using specific quartz coatings, we filter out those aggressive wavelengths. You still get all that great radiant heat hitting your skin, but you don’t get that “dazzle” effect that strains your eyes. It’s much softer on the vision. The real-world trade-off The best part about these heaters is the speed. They don’t waste time warming up the air in the room; they warm you instantly. It’s a great feeling. Just keep in mind that the eye-protection coating does block a tiny bit of the heat compared to a raw halogen tube. To make up for that, you might want to bump up the wattage or mount the unit a little lower to get that perfect level of warmth. And a quick tip for the install: always wire these into a dedicated circuit with a GFCI breaker. Since you’re working with water and electricity, it’s the only way to do it safely.
