Why Your Bathroom Mirror Should Actually Keep You Warm

Ever step out of a steaming hot shower and immediately hit a wall of freezing air while you’re trying to dry off? It’s the worst.
That’s exactly why we built these mirror-integrated infrared heaters. Most heaters try to warm up the entire room—which takes forever and wastes a ton of energy. We took a different route. We use short-wave infrared radiation, which basically means the heat goes straight to your skin and your towel. You feel it instantly.
The secret is in the speed.
We use high-wattage quartz tubes because they don’t mess around. They hit their peak temperature almost the second you flip the switch. We’ve tuned them to run hot enough to cut right through that heavy, damp bathroom air. No waiting for a coil to glow or a fan to kick in. It’s just… warm. Right now.
As for the guts of the thing, we use quartz glass tubes—usually filled with halogen to make sure the filaments last a long time. We tuck these behind the mirror or inside a recessed frame.
The mirror does more than just let you see if you have toothpaste on your face; it acts as a reflector. It bounces all those IR waves forward toward you instead of letting the heat soak into your wall.
We also kept the maintenance simple. We use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. Why? Because these lamps are wear items—they’ll eventually burn out. We didn’t want to solder everything shut and make you buy a whole new unit. You just pop the old one out and drop a new one in.
A quick heads-up on installation.
Because these pack a lot of punch, you have to be smart about the setup. Make sure your wiring can handle the peak current, or you’re going to have a bad time.
Also, if you’re putting a few of these in a tight changing area, things will heat up fast. Give the mirror some breathing room. Leave a gap for ventilation behind the frame. If you seal it too tight, you’ll either trip the thermal cutoff or, worse, ruin the mirror backing.
Just give it a little air, and you’re good to go.

It works great, but the light is the problem. Those halogen bulbs often put out a harsh, blinding white glare. It’s annoying for adults, but for a baby with developing eyes, it’s actually a real concern.
We figured out a way to fix that by tweaking how the light behaves.
