Why the “waterproof” part actually matters Here is the thing: traditional lamps have open designs. When moisture settles on that hot glass, it can crack or cause electrical arcs. Not great. We fix that by using sealed quartz tubes and housings with a high IP rating (usually IP44 or better). This keeps the water away from the electrical guts. The best part? You get radiant heat. It warms your skin directly rather than trying to heat the air. This means you feel warm the second you step out of the shower, even if your exhaust fan is cranking. A few things to keep in mind Now, there are some trade-offs. Because these elements are shielded for safety, the heat doesn’t spread quite as wide as a naked bulb. You might want to go for a higher wattage unit to make sure you’re getting enough coverage. And please, for the love of everything,use a GFCI outlet. Bathrooms are just too damp for standard wiring. Don’t take that risk. Fitting them into your home If you’re renovating, these are great for ceiling mounts or simple drop-in replacements.
